Frequently asked questions
What makes it ‘Christian - Informed’?
‘Christian - informed’ is our phrase we use to describe that our program’s approach is informed by a Christian perspective and belief. It acknowledges that the Bible holds many experiences and answers to problems we encounter today, including Anxiety. It is Erinnah’s belief that God’s Word gives us tools and direction for overcoming Anxiety, and these tools and direction happen to be in line with what psychological science has proved to be effective treatment strategies. How amazing is it that God had a plan way before science figured it out. We can’t wait to share it all with you and your child so they can have confidence and hope in their faith as well as confidence in psychological science. It’s Erinnah’s hope that this combination is extremely empowering for your child.
Can I do the program if I’m not a Christian, or not religious at all?
Absolutely. Our program was designed to encourage, educate, equip and empower your child. We do not ‘bible bash’ and it's not our intention to make anyone believe something if they are not open to it. It's not ‘preachy’ and we don’t ask the children to say the ‘sinner’s prayer’ or anything like that. But please keep in mind that it is ‘Christian - Informed’ which means that there is an intentional flavour of Christian themes and uplifting values within it, which is unavoidable, but, we hope, delightful.
Why is this aimed at children aged between 7 to 12 years old? Will it work for younger or older children?
The clinically proven strategies based on focused psychological strategies in this program that have a cognitive component have been shown to be effective for children from the age of 7 years old. This is based on the assumption that on average, children of this age have the developmental capacity to understand and utilise the strategies. Of course there are exceptions to this assumption and there is no reason why it would not be advantageous for younger children who appear to have the understanding to also engage. Additionally, some of the strategies within this program are appropriate for younger children as they are not cognitive based. If you have a younger child and would like to participate in the program, please be encouraged to try. The cartoon story episodes are designed to be less of a cognitive load to engage younger children with a meaningful lesson inside every story. Additionally, if you have an older child, please also be encouraged to try. The strategies are clinically effective for any age above 7 years old so there’s no reason why teens and adults can’t benefit too. Just bear in mind, the program has been designed to maintain the attention of children.
Is this program the same as receiving therapy?
Clinical guidelines for the management of anxiety recommend psychological interventions organised in a stepped care model, in which most patients access only low-intensity treatments such as guided self-help, and patients who remain symptomatic after this step can access more intensive and costly psychotherapies. Erinnah’s Treehouse Christian - Informed Anxiety Program for Kids is an online self help educational program that follows a common sequential approach for delivering therapy for anxiety. The program is based on focused psychological strategies clinically proven to be the effective treatment for anxiety. Our program is unique as it also incorporates Christian principles that specifically speak to anxiety management strategies…. Managing anxiety the way God’s Word intended. Whilst the program teaches the same strategies used in therapy and utilises the common sequential approach for delivering those strategies in therapy, the program is not intended as a complete treatment plan for your child. The program is not intended to be taken as medical advice or personally provided psychological advice, or to replace any medical, psychological or other allied health advice you or your child may have received personally. We offer personalised therapy sessions with our Treehouse Therapist (telehealth/video consult), that can be used in conjunction with the program. However, this is not a requirement, as our program is also a stand-alone educational program.
Do I need a referral or diagnosis to engage in the program?
No. The program is suitable for anyone who experiences anxiety, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed. We do recommend that children who have been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder or panic disorder also follow the program in conjunction with seeing a therapist or refer to a therapist after completing the program if symptoms persist.
Do I have to be seeing a therapist in order to do this program?
No. We offer personalised therapy sessions with our Treehouse Therapist (telehealth/video consult), that can be used in conjunction with the program. However, this is not a requirement, as our program is also a stand-alone educational program. You can also see any therapist of your choosing, you do not have to use one of ours.
How long does it take to complete?
Each section takes about 30 minutes to complete and is comprised of a cartoon story episode (which demonstrates typical scenarios children with anxiety experience and management strategies within the story) and a lesson session with Kel, the Treehouse Therapist. Resources, worksheets, and games are also included. There are 5 sections. We find that some kids need more breaks than others, so let them know its completely fine to do this program over a number of weeks, instead of pushing yourself to get it done in one go.
Does my child need to do it in order?
Yes please. The program has been designed to follow a common sequential approach for delivering anxiety treatment in therapy.
Is there an App?
Yes! The course is accessible via our online portal from any web browser, and also an App for Google Play Store users. You can access both. We are looking into Apple Store in the future. Once you've enrolled, you'll be sent an email with the link to the App, or you can go directly to the portal on the web.
Does my child have to attend live events online?
No. The Treehouse program is not a 'live participation' course, all the modules are pre-recorded. We do have the add-on option for private video consults with a Treehouse Therapist if thats what you'd like.
Who created the Christian - informed anxiety program for kids?
Erinnah’s Treehouse (Erinnah Pty Ltd) created the program with the knowledge, experience and expertise of a clinical Social Worker with a degree in psychological science and masters in social work and recognised accreditation in mental health and experience working as a children’s ministry leader. The development of the project was also informed by the opinions of young Christian people in the target age group so it is highly relevant and engaging. The program was created in Australia.
